My name is Lisa Holzl and this is my journey to 1 drop 2 wellness.
COVID-19 2020: Giant HALT to all things I love. I was teaching art at two different schools and teaching at the studio. SHELTER IN PLACE, cancelled all of my income. I turned my dining room into my studio. I know I am not the only one affected. But, this was my JOY. My EXPRESSIONS. My EMOTIONS. My RELEASE. My...
2019: Time to update you. I have a studio at WATER STREET STUDIOS, Batavia, IL. I've been there since 2019. My own space, YES. I moved out of my basement. I haven't stopped painting. I love creating from the heart. I listen to WORSHIP MUSIC during my times of arting. It is such a great release to my emotions.
Many commissions have been completed. Many paintings have been sold.
UPDATE 09/08/18: Wow, a lot has happened since I have shared my story. I continue to fight daily and do my best to stay strong physically and mentally. I have had a few more surgeries; hysterectomy (lupus related), a plate in my neck (not autoimmune related), and other simpler procedures. I have developed FIBROMYALGIA after my neck surgery.
Learning a new disease and living with my current ones, was a difficult road. I had to read up on fibro and everyone is affected differently. My body was in so much pain, I did not know what to do. I was in pain if the wind blew and touched my skin. Medication has helped a lot. Listening to my body and taking rests helped.
2017. In the summer of 2017, I began an art journal. I found this to take me away from my pain and focus more on Jesus as I listen to worship music. My journaling grew to painting and showing my art in my church. This outlet opened up something inside me, I did not know I had. All in God's timing.
I painted in my basement for almost a year. Now, visit me at Water Street Studios, Batavia, IL. I am in Studio 17.
I have since sold many paintings and done many commissions.
2009. I am going to go way back to 2009. I was pregnant with my 3rd child, who was born a month early (and healthy). A month later my left eye started to swell and it swelled shut. Many doctors got it biopsied and they found precancerous cells. I had surgery and radiation while homeschooling and raising a newborn. That first year was crazy, insane, depressing, sad, painful, lonely, etc!
Again, many doctors later, I found out that I had lupus. LUPUS!?! What is that? It is an autoimmune disease. The best way to explain it is: If a healthy person gets sick, your body helps to heal you; when I get sick...LUPUS runs rampage and makes me sicker. I don't even have to be sick for my body to attack me. Yes, this totally sucks. Yes, my body sometimes is against me. And there's NOTHING I can do. I am always fighting, unless... I go into REMISSION. I pray for remission, daily, monthly, yearly.
Since, 2009, I have had 8 surgeries and countless procedures. I continue to struggle. I have battled depression, I have developed asthma, Raynaud's disease and Neuropathy, since my initial diagnosis. Did I tell you LUPUS sucks? I continue to faithfully/daily fight for my health. Go ahead and click on the photos below.
My eyes are set on JESUS. Jesus is first for everything that I do. Without Jesus...I can tell you, that I would be telling you a different story.
